Permaquip and Aquarius Rail today announce the formation of Permaquip Group, a new parent brand that brings together two of the rail industry’s most trusted names in railway plant manufacturing and on‑track vehicle hire.
The move formalises a long‑standing partnership, and positions the Group to deliver even greater value to rail operators in the UK and across global markets.
Under the new structure, Permaquip will lead all manufacturing operations, overseeing the design and production of innovative, safety‑led railway plant and equipment. These products are already in use across the world through a 34‑country distribution network, and the Group will continue to expand its international reach with a unified strategy and strengthened technical capability.
Aquarius Rail will continue as a highly respected brand within the industry, operating as Aquarius Hire – a dedicated plant hire specialist providing reliable, innovative and fully supported road‑rail vehicle hire to organisations across the UK and beyond. Customers will see no disruption to service, instead, they will benefit from clearer routes to both manufacturing expertise and hire solutions.
Both businesses will continue to work closely together, ensuring seamless alignment between product development, fleet support and operational delivery. All manufacturing will be managed through Permaquip, while all hire services for the full product range will be delivered through Aquarius Hire.
Leadership of the new Group reflects this strengthened structure. Scott Harrison will serve as Chairman of Permaquip Group, providing strategic oversight across both brands. Martin Shepperd steps into the role of Director of Permaquip, driving forward the company’s engineering, innovation and manufacturing excellence. Kelly Brown will take sole leadership of Aquarius Hire as Director, continuing to build on the company’s reputation for dependable, customer‑focused hire services.
Speaking on the announcement, the Group emphasised its commitment to innovation, safety, and long‑term partnership with rail operators worldwide. Chairman Scott Harrison said:
‘Bringing Permaquip and Aquarius Rail together under the Permaquip Group is a natural evolution of two businesses that have worked side by side for many years.
‘This structure allows us to strengthen our manufacturing capability, expand our global reach and continue delivering the trusted, innovative solutions the rail industry depends on. With Permaquip focused on engineering excellence and Aquarius Hire dedicated to reliable, customer‑driven fleet support, we are building a Group that is fully aligned, future‑ready, and committed to raising standards across the sector.
‘The merger marks a significant milestone in the companies’ shared history and sets the foundation for a stronger, more integrated future’.
